It’s going to be early morning rising come April, thanks to a change in when Sudbury residents can put their garbage out.

Sudbury City Council voted to change the bylaw so weekly trash will be required to be curbside between 5am and 7am.

It’s meant to control nuisance bears, which reached problematic levels this summer.

Ward 10 Councillor Fern Cormier feels if this change is going to work, it must be properly enforced.

There will be a $150-fine for non-compliance.

Ward 8 Councillor Al Sizer brought the motion forward and says this is not the solution but it is a start.

And Ward 7 City Councillor Mike Jakubo agrees the time is early, but it should work, since people on his street have already adopted the method following bear encounters this summer.

The change to the by-law will take effect April 1 next year and will run until November 30th.
