Protest

By Stew Kernan

A protest against nursing cuts at Health Sciences North was held this morning.

16 Registered Practical Nurses whose positions were eliminated, were transferred to the renal program where their skills will not be fully utilized.

Pauline Brownlee is one of those effected…she says patient care will be affected.

Michael Hurley, the President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions, says this is happening because of a funding freeze imposed by the provincial Liberal government.

Hurley says before the budget freeze, Ontario hospitals were the most efficient in the country with the shortest length of stay and lowest costs.
