Big Nickel Hockey

By Stew Kernan

The Big Nickel hockey tournament remains one of the most important in the province.

It begins Thursday and will be played in five area arenas with the championship games to be held at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex on Sunday.

Sudbury Wolves captain Danny Desrochers got a taste of the Sudbury-North Bay rivalry when he played in the tournament during his minor hockey days.

A total of 38 teams are taking part this year.
