A spike belt was used to end a chase between police and a Sudbury man in the Wawa area.

On Monday, OPP were told about a Dodge Nitro travelling west bound on Highway 17 that was involved in a gas theft.

When police tried to stop the vehicle the driver kept going and avoided the first set of spike belts but was taken out by the second set by Marathon OPP.

The driver flagged down a motorist, jumped in the car without consent and then was dropped off at the Marathon Esso where he attempted to steal another vehicle.

OPP were able to track down the man a few hours later on foot and arrested 32-year old Timothy St. Germain of Sudbury who police believe is the culpret.

He now faces five charges.
