laurentian

Two young Syrian refugees will arrive in Sudbury next summer to begin their studies at Laurentian University.

It’s a joint infinitive between World University Service Canada and L-U’s Student Refugee Program.

Geography Professor and the faculty rep on L-U’s W-U-S-C committee Dr. Jorge Virchez says the students continue to show a strong commitment to global outreach.

Laurentian provides the tuition, accommodations and meals for the first year of studies and the L-U community will fundraise to help with the significant re-settlement costs with up to $30,000 needed over the next eight to nine months.

Laurentian University has sponsored 21 refugees since 1978.
