Relay For Life 2017

What an incredible and emotional night at Laurentian University on Friday, June 16 in the Greater City,

The Relay started with a little Zumba to warm up the participants and get everyone ready for the long walk they are about to push through. The main event started with the release of bio degradable balloons into the air to remember the ones who we have battled against cancer. Followed by a survivor lap where all of the participants who have beat the battle against cancer had an emotional lap around the track being applauded by the spectators and other participants.

As the event carried on into the evening the Relay participants would stop at the KiSS tent to chat with us, and play some of the exciting games we had. Everyone was welcome to enter themselves into a draw to win tickets to The Northern Lights Festival Boreal. Congratulations to Vanessa Comtois for winning a weekend pass to NLFB!

It was incredible to speak to some of the survivors and hear about the battle they put forward in the fight against cancer. While walking through tent village we were asking some of the volunteers and walkers who were taking part in the event “why are you walking today?” Most of them would answer, “I’m here for family, i’m here for friends” but one gentleman approached me and said that he was here walking because he is tired of cancer ruining the lives and families of Canadians. The gentleman was out walking with his two sons and they wanted to help fight and end cancer in any way they can.

As the track started to fill up, the smiles on the faces of the survivors began to grow. Knowing that the fight against cancer was not fought alone and they have more then their family to back them up, they have a full community standing behind them.

The KiSS team met one incredible ten year old during Relay for Life. Kaneesha went on stage in front of everyone and cut ten inches off her hair to show her support for those who are are battling cancer.

The event finished with an incredible luminary ceremony followed by some breath taking fireworks.
