The Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame announced the 2017 class welcoming eight individuals and one team to the ranks.

Hall of Fame Historian Norm Mayor says this year they have a great mix of sports.

Mary Waddell will be inducted in the builders category as a long-time Nordic Skiing coach and promoter, along with soccer player, coach and official Mario Anselmo.

Waddell says she reached out to her friends on Facebook and was quite excited because the sport of cross-country skiing is being recognized.

Former CFL Grey Cup winner Mike Derks and the late hockey and baseball player Andy Barbe were inducted in the players category.

In the administration category, Laurentian University School of Human Kinetics professor Pat Pickard, volunteer Bill McKetsey, Copper Cliff Minor Hockey treasurer Ron Didone and 1996 Olympic Winter Games Chef de Mission Bob Rogers were inducted.

And the Canadian Junior ‘A’ Silver medalists 1999-2000 Rayside Balfour Sabrecats were inducted in the team category.
