Statistics Canada says over 72 thousand impaired driving incidents in Canada last year, but that’s 65 per cent lower than numbers collected in 1986.

In 2015 there were 201 incidents per 100 thousand people compared to 577 per 100 thousand in 1986.

Stats Can first started collecting the data in that year.

Impaired driving numbers are also 4 per cent lower than 2014.

Ontario had the lowest impaired driving rates in the country, while the highest was Saskatchewan.
