Over the past year, 146,000 Ontario residents have determined their own personal cancer risk through a special online tool.

Cancer Care Ontario is marking the one year anniversary since it launched My CancerIQ.

They’re using the opportunity to tell people about an expansion to the program.

When users go to the website www.MyCancerIQ.ca they can assess their risk of developing cancers like breast, cervical, colorectal or lung cancer.

Most recently added are kidney cancer and melanoma (skin cancer).

The My CancerIQ online tool also shows users how to reduce their own personal risk factors.

Regional Coordinator at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury, Nicole Gauthier, says risk factors for melanoma are too much time in the sun, while kidney cancer is linked to high blood pressure, smoking and being overweight.

Yesterday (Feb 4) was World Cancer Day.
