Over 70 rallies were held across Canada yesterday including here in Sudbury, outside of the courthouse, to protest the Harper government’s proposed anti-terror legislation.

Bill C-51 would give police and Canada’s spy agency new powers to detain terror suspects.

Local NDP’ers and Green Party members were joined by a large group of supporters who believe the bill is very vague and rushed, and David Robinson who ran for the Greens in the Sudbury by-election says ISIS wins if this is passed.

Robinson would like to see the Bill scrapped altogether.

Andre Clement who is the Chair of Sudbury Chapter Council Of Canadians says leave the legislation the way it is, policing agencies have been handling terror situations fine so far.

President of the Sudbury NDP Richard Eberhardt hopes people become more aware of what the bill entails, and how it will infringe upon citizens civil liberties and right to privacy, especially online.

The Conservative government claims Bill C-51 will make Canadians safer because it will give authorities broader powers to go after suspected terrorists.
