There were a record number of nominations this year for the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards in Sudbury.

The Selection Committee had a difficult job coming up with the seven who will take home the honour during ceremonies set for May 1st at the Radisson Hotel.

YWCA Executive Director Marlene Gorman announced this year’s winners who are advocates, community volunteers, entrepreneurs, role models and mentors and eve a non-profit group.

President of YWCA Board of Directors, Angele Charette, who was part of the selection team says they always look for women making a difference in our community.

She says they like to choose recipients from all different sectors and industries in the city (health, business, education, etc)

Proceeds from the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards gala ticket sales go towards the Power of Being a Girl conference.

This is a day-long session for 300 local teens to think critically about messages in the media about body image, relationships and communication.
