Up until yesterday funding support for the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame project had been disappointing.

But last night’s fundraising dinner “At Centre Ice” helped greatly towards the $2.9-million dollar project, proposed for the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

The guest speakers were former N-H-L Coach and current Hockey Canada President and C-E-O Tom Renney and Sudbury’s own Joe Drago, Hockey Canada’s Chairman of the Board.

Hall of Fame Founder, Chris Sheridan, remains positive despite the delays and says these types of events get the ball rolling on fundraising.

Plans for the new hall were on display during last night’s packed event at the Caruso Club, as a reminder the project is still going ahead.

Sheridan says potential supporters see these details and that’s usually when they decide to commit.

So far $600,000 had been raised, with last night’s dinner bringing in another $30,000.

Over 350 attended the fundraiser.
