Ontario’s air quality continues to improve.

The 43rd annual air quality report shows that here in Sudbury, sulphur dioxide concentrations are down 34% and levels of fine particulate matter, such as aerosols, smoke, fumes and pollen, were down by 30%.

Sudbury has seen good air quality reported 96% of the time with no smog days reported in the city in 2013 or 2014.

Ministry spokesperson Kate Jordan says the improvement is thanks to many factors including phasing out the use of coal and better industrial air standards.

Jordan says cleaner air lowers the health risks associated with pollution such as asthma and other respiratory diseases.
