A parent or guardian is a child’s first teacher…and during the pandemic parents have taken on a larger role when it comes to education.
Today is Family Literacy Day and event that began in 1999 and this year the focus will be on learning as a family.
Mack Rogers is the Executive Director at ABC Life Literacy Canada and he says pre-pandemic students spend five times more outside of class than in class so what you learn with your family is extremely important.
All day today there will be free online resources available to bring families together with fun activities and ideas.
They are available at familyliteracyday.ca and will include a special event with author and illustrator Barbara Reid who has been called “one of Canada’s major literary figures”
That event begins at 4:30 pm today and registration is on the website.
