Local cyclists took to the road today to join Olympian and Sudbury’s own Devon Kershaw in the annual Share the Road Bike Ride.

Kershaw spoke openly about Sudbury being behind in cycling infrastructure, even when comparing to cities in the North like Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.

He hopes that the local government can come together and fund much needed options for alternative transportation.

Manager of Community Partnerships for the City, Chris Gore agrees but believes a change is coming, as council continues to announce funding for local cycling.

Kershaw says he loves the event and loves that anyone young and old can participate and pointed out that he was just wearing normal shorts and t-shirt.

The former world champion also pointed out that Sudbury has a small but very strong cycling community.

Kershaw and the group of cyclists went out on a 15 km group ride, and all donations will be given to Share the Road and Rainbow Routes.

Share the Road started in 2008 and raises awareness for bicycle safety, road safety, overall healthy lifestyles, and promotes the use of alternate forms of transportation in our community.
