Two-hundred motorcycles all riding in unison for the same cause…prostate cancer awareness.

The annual Rally for Dad event is set to go Saturday, June 20th -Father’s Day weekend- starting from the Northern Cancer Foundation on Ramsey Lake Road.

The route is different this year and will heading 250-kilometres towards the French River.

Chair of the event, Nicole McDonald, says her dad’s experience at the cancer centre is why she’s been so involved in organizing the Rally For Day.

She says he received wonderful treatment and support and that made a difference in his life and that of his family’s.

This year funds that will used towards equipment specifically for prostate cancer.

NCF Executive Director Tannys Laughren says they’ve purchased Brachytherapy equipment which helps administer low doses of radiation treatment in a more precise way.

It also limits the radiations effect on the patient’s body.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, so it’s important for everyone to be aware of the importance of getting screened.

The Rally for Day goes Father’s Day weekend, Saturday June 20.

Registration begins at 9am and the group of motorcycles will leave the cancer centre at 10:30am.

This morning Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger proclaimed June as Prostate Cancer Awareness month and the NCF flag was raised at Tom Davies Square.
