Greater Sudbury Police will be looking to fill eight new positions, not for police officers, but rather Community Safety Personnel.

The job postings were recently approved by the police board and will help help redeploy six police officers to front-line duties.

According to Police Chief Paul Pedersen, one of the positions is for a Youth Safety Officer, who will play a role in connecting with other young people throughout the community.

Other Alternative Response Officer positions will help in areas like missing persons, Crime Stoppers.

While there will also be a hire within Corporate Communications for GSPS.

Pederson says the new hires will help with effectiveness and efficiency, since these posts are expected to free up officers for their front-line policing duties.

They all should be filled in the coming months.
