Greater Sudbury Police are reminding residents to not leave food out for bears, but also to not try to deal with nuisance bears without authorities.

When a bear was seen roaming the Ramsey View Court neighbourhood Monday, a resident threatened to leave out a bowl of anti-freeze to deal with the situation.

Police say this dangerous chemical is poisonous and could not only kill any wildlife that ingests it, but could also be harmful to humans, especially children who might not know what the liquid is.

Another resident from the same neighbourhood was also seen leaving food out for the same bear.

Meanwhile, a mother bear was shot by police Monday morning after she charged at officers.

Residents around Kingslea Court in New Sudbury called police after a sow and her two cubs were spotted.

The momma bear became aggressive when M-N-R officials tried to capture the animals.

Police were forced to shoot the larger bear when she charged at officers.
