The federal government have announced an infrastructure investment for Greater Sudbury on the heels of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Cabinet’s stay in the city.

Over 3.8 million dollars will go towards nine transit infrastructure projects in Sudbury, including four new 30-foot buses, building upgrades to the downtown Transit Terminal and a route optimization study.

Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre says the route optimization study was key for him with the layout of the city and certain areas hard-pressed for public transit.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre says this is just phase one of federal government infrastructure funding so the work is not done yet.

These were projects put forward by the municipal government to get 50 per cent funding, the city must cover the remaining balance on the projects.

The nine projects are expected to be completed by March 2018.
