Key senior’s issues were the focus as Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger made an appearance at the local Canadian Association of Retired Persons general meeting today.

Bigger touched on affordable housing, public transit and promised the city would find six million dollars in savings ahead of the 2016 budget to keep taxes where they are to help seniors stay in their homes longer.

Chair of Sudbury CARP Hugh Kruzel says seniors as well as all citizens are key in a process where the city has asked for help in finding savings.

Bigger says these community meetings are key for them as a council.

A recent study done by CARP says 94 percent of older adults feel roads should be repaired before the city looks at new projects.

There are over 30 thousand people in Greater Sudbury over the age of 60.
