Even though The Weeknd’s face isn’t bandaged and/or bloody in his new music video for Save Your Tears, fans couldn’t help but notice some major face enhancements.

Throughout the video, we see Abel rocking leather gloves, a bedazzled red jacket along with super high cheekbones, bloated lips as well as a bloated face, and a crooked nose.  According to a source, ‘it’s all part of his performance piece,’ “This is strictly performance art.  The Weeknd is wearing prosthetics as part of the character he’s been playing since November 2019 when he launched the After Hours era.”

Abel’s look was created by Mike Marino of Prosthetic Renaissance (he’s the mastermind behind Heidi Klum’s epic Halloween costumes).  On Instagram, Mike explains it was ‘supposed to look like The Weeknd had bad plastic surgery,’ and he nailed it!

In November, The Weeknd appeared bandaged up at the 2020 AMAs, where he performed Save Your Tears and In Your Eyes.

And fans couldn’t help but notice Abel’s leading lady looks very much like his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez.

In case you were wondering, The Weeknd is working on a new album.  In a recent interview with TMRW, The Weeknd spoke about his upcoming album, the album’s inspiration, and what the fans can expect:

“My natural singing voice was inspired and shaped by Ethiopian music.  The older I got, I was exposed to more music, and my voice became a chameleon going into different characters with each album. By following my own path and breaking industry norms, it seems to be influencing others.  I have been more inspired and creative during the pandemic than I might normally be while on the road…The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the tensions of the election have mostly created a sense of gratitude for what I have and closeness with the people near me.”

From his 2011 mixtapes to 2020’s After Hours, The Weeknd shares, “I was laser focused back then and I’m laser focused right now. This has been the story of my 20s.  I feel like I spent the last 10 years creating a sound and most of my career, I’ve either been running away from it or duplicating it. After Hours was the perfect piece of art for me to show my tenure in the industry.”
