Escaped Emu Finally Nabbed After 5 Days on the Run

Doncaster, England, resident Kerry Dobson turned to Facebook to solicit help in capturing an escaped emu named Ethel, after the 6-foot-tall bird escaped and began roaming the neighborhood. Ethel was on the lam for 5 days before it was finally captured and returned to Dobson’s residence. Dobson had posted on Facebook earlier that she was very concerned for Ethel’s safety. “She’s terrified. She’s been running since Thursday so could be anywhere. She’s had stones thrown at her and all sorts, she’s not used to being out she must be terrified.” Local officials also said they’d been bombarded with calls about the bird. Dobson eventually posted that the large bird was safe.

Dunkin’ Launches Coffee-Inspired Cereals

Later this month, Dunkin’ will be bringing coffee-based cereals to supermarket shelves.  The new cereals are based on popular drinks at the coffee and doughnut retailer: Mocha Latte and Caramel Macchiato. Dunkin’ teamed up with Post, the company that already sells Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat and other cereals. For the cereal, Dunkin’ coffee concentrate is added to crunchy balls, which are then mixed with flavored marshmallow pieces. Each serving will contain as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. Reactions are mixed; some think it’s a terrible idea, but there are people waiting to try it, too. You might wonder why they haven’t tried a doughnut flavor; the company tried in the 1980s, but it didn’t really catch on.

Florida Man Steals Beef Jerky, Gets Busted for Heroin

At 4 a.m. on August 10, Matthew McNickles and a female companion walked into a 7-Eleven in Collier County, Florida, and stole several packets of beef jerky and a case of water. McNickles returned to the store about five hours later, at which point the clerk alerted police, who pulled McNickles over in a blue Lincoln nearby. There, police found aluminum foil that was shaped like a pipe, a bag of heroin, “multiple unopened beef jerky packets,” which were returned to the store after McNickles was taken into custody.
