Executive Director of YWCA Sudbury, Marlene Gorman and her team make some very difficult choices each year…who to honour with a Women of Distinction award.

The YWCA Sudbury Women of Distinction award gala is in it’s 12th year and this year there are eight recipients.

Gorman says in a community like ours, there could be so many more.

Helen Francis is the nominee for the Sport and Active Living category and the mother of five, chartered engineer, geoscientist and program leader at Vale’s Digital Mine Transformation somehow finds time to be a role model for young people not only in Sudbury but in Sudan, North Africa and Egypt.

The Young Woman of Distinction winner is Shawna Partridge who is an author, mentor, college professor and inspirational leader.

She says every woman faces different challenges…for her it’s anxiety.

Other winners include Barb Blasutti and Liana Holm for the Women of Distinction Group, Charlene Biggs, Stephanie Langille, Elaine Blacklock and Colleen Thompson.

Tickets are on sale for the Women of Distinction Gala which will be held Saturday, April 28th at the Radisson Hotel.
