A Greater Sudbury Transit driver is being called a ‘hero’ after she assisted in saving a young woman’s life.

It was a freezing cold day when Christine Larochelle was driving her route and noticed a young woman laying on the sidewalk, motionless and unresponsive.

That’s when she jumped into action, pulled over and dialed 911. She told the dispatcher that she couldn’t feel a pulse, so they instructed her on how to do compression to get her heart moving.

Larochelle repeatedly pressed on the young woman’s chest in an attempt to keep her alive until paramedics arrived. The woman is now recovering in hospital.
