Following an investigation, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada have released a recommendation into a train derailment that happened two years ago.

On February 14th, 2015, 29 cars derailed near Gogama causing the spill of 1.7 million litres of crude oil and a fire that burned for five days.

Chair of the TSB, Kathy Fox says they are calling on Transport Canada develop strategies to help reduce the severity of derailments involving dangerous goods.

It will look into speed of trains, thermal protection of cars and more.

The TSB released investigation findings in Sudbury on Thursday morning.

Investigator, Rob Johnston says the derailment was caused by failed joint bars on the track that were overlooked by a newly hired track maintenance employee.

Since the derailment CN have made changes to their employee training.
