On December 28, Debbie Reynolds died at the age of 84, just one day after her daughter and fellow actress, Carrie Fisher, passed away at the age of 60. “She’s now with Carrie, and we’re all heartbroken,” said Reynolds’ son, Todd Fisher, adding that the stress of his sister’s death “was too much” for his mother. Onscreen, Reynolds starred in Singin’ in the Rain and received an Oscar nomination for The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Offscreen, Elizabeth Taylor was her best friend, and when Taylor’s husband died, Reynolds and her spouse, the singer Eddie Fisher, rushed to her side. But this resulted in an extramarital affair between Taylor and Eddie, who soon divorced Reynolds to marry Taylor. After five years of marriage, Taylor dumped Fisher for actor Richard Burton.

Ariana Grande took to Twitter Tuesday (December 27th) to slam a young man who made a crude comment about her in front of herself and boyfriend, Mac Miller. The couple was on their way to pick up dinner, Grande wrote, when a fan approached Miller to compliment him and then added, “Ariana is sexy as hell man I see you, I see you hitting that.” She wrote in her post, “Hitting that? The f**k??”

She continued, “This may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I felt sick and objectified. I was also sitting right there when he said it.” Ariana said she “felt really quiet and hurt” after the encounter and that these are the “kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy. I am not a piece of meat that a men gets to utilize for his pleasure. I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect.”

  • Grande went on to say that it “hurts my heart that so many young people are so comfortable” when it comes to using phrases that objectify women “with such ease.” Grande also said it’s time to stop ignoring them and start sharing stories. She then said, “We need to share and be vocal when something makes us feel uncomfortable because if we don’t, it will just continue. We are not objects or prizes. We are QUEENS.”
  • In her follow-up tweets, Ariana noted that many people’s main critique of her words is that she is “so sexual” in her videos and her music. “Expressing sexuality in art is not an invitation for disrespect. Just like wearing a short skirt is not asking for assault.”
