The Out of the Cold emergency shelter will have a new name and new service provider when it opens up for the Winter season.

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Sudbury and Manitoulin will take over the newly named Low Barrier Emergency Shelter Program.

Coordinator of Shelters and Homelessness Programs for the City, Gail Spencer says it was a close choice between the CMHA and Salvation Army.

But after a bidding process the city went with CMHA.

The Salvation Army had run the program since 2014.

Spencer says up to 30 people used the service last winter.

Spencer also says they will be focusing on not only providing a safe place but a place that provides the correct resources to people.

CMHA says they will hire new staff to help out with the shelter that will run from from 8 pm to 7 am beginning late November.
