The blueberries aren’t as good as they have been in past years, but they are better than last years crop, which is good for the bears.

Sudbury had record bear numbers last year, the Ministry of Natural resources reported more than two thousand sightings in the city and over 17 hundred complaints.

But MNR Regional Outreach Specialist, Karen Passmore says so far it’s been a different story this year.

From April to July 22nd last year there were 737 bear calls, but for the same time period this year, there have only been 317.

Passmore attributes pockets of berries, other food sources and better education as contributing factors to the lower numbers.
