The city, Greater Sudbury Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources taking steps to streamline the process of reporting nuisance bears.

Police have a developed a new system that will get people the proper response when they spot a near in their neighbourhood.

Inspector John Somerset says it’s triggered when residents call the police.

Dispatchers will decide if the call needs to be dealt with by the Police or if the caller will be directed M-N-R’s Bear Wise Hotline

Also…a new Report-A-Bear on-line mapping tool has been launched so residents can now report the sighting on the website to let others know there was a bear in the area.

Already this year there has been close to 70 nuisance bear sightings in Greater Sudbury.
