The special studies initiative by Greater Sudbury Police will be the first study done in Ontario looking into factors surrounding pedestrian collisions.

Going forward officers will be able to better report on pedestrian collisions giving the police service more data to study.

Staff Sgt. Rick Waugh says they will provide updates going forward but there is no timeline for the study.

It will look at three factors.

When a collision happens officers to add if there were any distractions like cell phones, what the person was wearing, and if the pedestrian was using a mobility aid like a cane or skateboard.

Officers will add that information to their end report.
