A Laurentian University Professor is one of just 13 role models chosen to be part of a new provincial campaign by the Council of Ontario Universities.

The campaign targets Aboriginal youth to help realize their own dreams by learning about successes achieved by others.

It’s meant to encourage higher education and pursuit of rewarding careers in the future.

Dr. Sheila Cote Meek is the Associate Vice-President of Academic and Indigenous Programs at LU, and one of the role models.

She attributes her success to her parents and grandparents, as well as a special Grade Eight teacher who encouraged her to dream big.

Cote-Meek says there is lots of support -across all Ontario universities- for aboriginal students to be successful in education.
