Sudbury’s unemployment rate hasn’t been this high in over five years.

The January jobless figures from Statistics Canada show the local rate at 8.6%.

That’s a slight bump from 8.4% measured in December.

That translates into more people looking for work and its been like that since last summer.

The city hasn’t seen an unemployment rate this low since late 2010 (November 2010 – 8.8% unemployment rate).

In fact, compared to other cities across the country, only Windsor has a higher unemployment rate (9.3%)

Both Montreal and St. Catherines-Niagara also have jobless rates at 8.6% for January.

The national jobless rate sits at 7.2%, with 5,700 fewer jobs across Canada.
