After a year of frozen taxes, ratepayers across Greater Sudbury should brace for a higher tax bill this year.

The city’s Finance & Administration Committee set the city’s 2016 budget last night, but the numbers all still have to be approved by city council.

The tax hike is 3.9%, which figures out to be an extra $102 on an average tax bill.

The City of Greater Sudbury’s total 2016 budget is $519-million.

The capitol budget is set at $107-million, including almost 40% ($41-million) towards road investments.

The committee says it tried to maintain a high level of service while investing in critical operations.

Sudbury City Council is expected to rubber-stamp the financial plan on Tuesday (Feb 9).
