With Vale’s multi-million dollar Clear AER project nearing completion, the company will no longer require a chimney as tall as the Superstack and they may consider tearing it down.  The 380 metre (1250  foot) tall chimney has been operating since 1972 and is the second tallest in the world and the 2nd tallest freestanding structure of any type in Canada, behind the CN Tower.

It was built by Inco at a cost of $ 25-million dollars to disperse sulphur gases and byproducts of the smelting process away from Sudbury. It accomplished this by placing the gases high in the air, where they normally blew right past the city on the prevailing winds. As a result, the gases can be detected in the atmosphere around Greater Sudbury in a 240 kilometres (150 mi) radius

The ultimate decision on what to do with the structure lies with Vale but we wanted to know if you think the company should look at preserving it or should they tear it down?
