Taxi

The City of Greater Sudbury is looking at possibly revising its bylaws which focused around ground transportation, like taxis, shuttles or limos.

That’s because Uber, a ride sharing service, is hoping to bring its vehicles here.

City council wants to be proactive before that happens.

Ward 9 City Councillor, Deb McIntosh was approached last fall by local taxi companies wanting to keep the industry fair for all.

She says they’re not opposed to the competition, they just want to even the playing field.

The public is invited to an open house from 5pm-7pm tonight in Committee Room C-11 at Tom Davies Square.

City staff will answer questions and gather feedback from residents before they prepare a report for city council.

McIntosh hopes customers were regularly use taxis or would use Uber will come provide their input on the issue.

Municipal bylaws may need to be changed for licensing, regulating or governing transportation like taxis and limos, and soon Uber.

The report is due to Greater Sudbury City Council by April.
