Members of the Northern Cancer Foundation and the Sam Bruno PET Steering Committee smile as community donations have surpased one million dollars

It’s been quite a week for the Sam Bruno PET Steering Committee as they aim to bring a Positron Emission Tomography Scanner to Sudbury.

Last Tuesday the provincial government announced they would cover the annual costs of a permanent PET Scanner in Sudbury and now the committee announced they have raised over one million dollars.

They had set a million dollars goal for the end of the year and the tally coming in from the community sits at $1,010,000.

This did not surprise Executive Director of the Northern Cancer Foundation, Tannys Laughren, who says she never doubted the committee or the community.

Committee member Brenda Tessaro says their goal was to reach one million before the end of the year, and now they hope to raise the four million dollars needed by April 1st, when the government funding comes into effect.

Every dollar that is contributed can be put on a tax receipt to be claimed on income tax.

Donations can be dropped off, mailed or phoned in to the Northern Cancer Foundation, more information is on the committee website at http://sambrunopetscanner4sudbury.ca/, or 705-523-4673.

Tessaro says no donation is too small.
