Greater Sudbury Police are urging parents to talk to their kids about strangers.

That’s after a ten-year-old girl was the victim of harassment by a man while walking in Chelmsford Monday afternoon.

The child was approached by a man, who engaged her in conversation until they were inside a local business.

The business owner realized the young girl was not connected to the man and told the suspect to leave.

A 32-year old Chelmsford man is charged with Criminal Harassment and Carrying a Concealed weapon, since he had a knife with him.

Police issued safety tips for parents to educate their children on if they are ever approached by strangers.

Safety Tips:
Don’t talk to strangers.
Don’t take anything from strangers.
Don’t go anywhere with someone you don’t know.
Stay more than an arm’s reach from strangers. If you are approached by a stranger, seek help immediately.
Trust your instincts, if you feel you are being followed or something is not right, seek help immediately.
Use the buddy system, avoid walking anywhere alone.
When seeking help, always go to a trusted adult – teacher, coach, police officer, other parent, or older siblings.
Report any suspicious activity to your local school and police.
