Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault congratulates new Sudbury MP Paul Lefebvre

For over ten months Sudbury’s seat at Parliament Hill sat empty but last night the riding elected Liberal Paul Lefebvre as their new MP.

It’s the first time the riding has voted red since re-electing Diane Marleau in 2006.

Lefebvre says his first order of business is to open his office and to start fighting for infrastructure and jobs in Sudbury.

The vote for Liberal meant the New Democrats couldn’t retain their hold on the Sudbury Riding as Paul Loewenberg finished a distant second.

Loewenberg offered his congratulations to Lefebvre and says the Liberals have a lot of work to do.

This was Loewenberg’s second time running as he ran previously provincially narrowly losing to Rick Bartolucci.

He says he isn’t sure if he will run again but is looking forward to spending time with his family after the longest campaign in the last 100 years in Canada.

Conservative Fred Slade came in right behind Loewenberg, while Green’s David Robinson was fourth.
