A Gore Bay man has been convicted on numerous animal cruelty charges for the mistreatment of horses.

An investigation began in February 2013 after the SPCA received a report about concerns of 21 horses in the care of David Pryor.

A search warrant was executed in March 2013 and officers found a number of distress issues with the horses.

Pryor was ordered to provide the proper care and address environmental hazards, but charges were laid after officers returned and found the orders had not been carried out.

Earlier this month Pryor was sentenced to 30 days in jail, is not allowed  to own any livestock including horses for 15 years and has 60 days to find homes for the horses still in his care.

Pryor was previously convicted of animal cruelty under the criminal code of Canada.
