BreastCancerScreening

It takes five minutes to book a mammogram and less than ten to complete the procedure.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Health Sciences North, the Northeast Cancer Centre and Cancer Care Ontario are encouraging more women to schedule these appointments.

Regional Coordinator of Cancer Screening Engagement and Promotion, Nicole Gauthier, says the provincial campaign “Just Book It” appeals to a certain age group to make an appointment for a mammogram.

Women ages 50 to 74 are most at risk, however women in the lower segment of this population are being targeted during this campaign.

Gauthier says many women ages 50-54 haven’t been in for even their first mammogram.

This screening tool helps detect breast cancer, and if found early patients have a higher survival rate.
