ButterflyMemories2013

By Angela Gemmill

Hundreds of butterflies will be released this afternoon in Bell Park to mark World Suicide Prevention Day in Greater Sudbury.

The 2nd annual event is planned by the North East Suicide Prevention Network as a way to reach out those who have been bereaved by suicide.

Co-Chair of the Network, Eva Neufeld says it’s also about helping people find local resources and it’s a way to openly talk about feelings.

She says this event helps reduce the stigma surrounding suicide, as many grieving family members feel like they can’t talk about the topic with anyone.

Butterflies are ten dollars each and the money goes to help the agency with programs and services.

The butterflies will be released at 5pm from the Bell Park Gazebo and everyone is welcome.

For those who are feeling in distress they can call Health Sciences North’s Crisis Intervention 24-hour hotline at 705-675-4760.

Or Northern Initiative for Social Action’s (NISA’s) Warm Line in the evenings only at 1-866-856-9276.
