Justin Bieber & Lena Dunham
HBO Girls star Lena Dunham thinks that some of the lyrics in the Biebs new song, “What Do You Mean?” promote rape culture. The lyrics in question are: “What do you mean? / When you nod your head yes / But you wanna say no / What do you mean?”
Meanwhile, Justin Bieber has gone on record to state that the song is about when a woman can’t make up her mind about a relationship, not about whether or not to have sex.
But maybe Lena didn’t know that because she tweeted: “Let’s do away with pop songs where a girl nods yes when she means no and vice versa, k?” It didn’t take long for Belieber trolls to attack Dunham right back back via Twitter, with some people even mentioning the controversy surrounding Dunham’s book and what she wrote about her sister. The next day, Dunham posted a picture of herself on Instagram next to a picture of Bieber (because she thinks they look the same right now) and the caption says, “How could anyone think I have an issue with Bieber?”

The director for Taylor Swift’s newest video “Wildest Dreams” is receiving some criticism for how the video was executed because it was filmed in Africa but there are few people of colour in it.
While the video has been viewed more than 15 million times, there has been even more backlash for clips depicting a “colonial era view of Africa”. Taylor Swift announced she plans to donate the proceeds from the video to the African Parks Foundation of Africa. The director, Joseph Kahn explains that the video was a love story set in Africa in 1950 and while there were two black Africans in background shots it would have been “historically inaccurate to load the crew with more black actors as the video would have been accused of rewriting history.” He went on to explain that the “Wildest Dreams” video producer and editor are both African-American. T-Swift has not addressed the controversy just yet.

    • Pop singer Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger are divorcing after two years of marriage. Lavigne announced the news via Instagram: “It is with a heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.” Beside the post was the couple’s wedding day photo. Prior to Kroeger popping the question, the two had dated for just a few months while working on Lavigne’s album at the time. Rumors that they were splitting up appeared in September 2014, with a source saying the couple had been “fighting a lot” and there was “jealousy on both sides.” Lavigne was spotted that same month celebrating her 30th birthday in Las Vegas without her husband. Lavigne and Kroeger have both been plagued by health issues in the past year as well. Lavigne revealed last April that she was suffering from a severe case of Lyme disease, while Kroeger experienced throat problems that forced Nickelback to cancel all its tour dates for the entire second half of 2015. This was Lavigne’s second marriage. She was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, who tied the knot with model Ariana Cooper over the weekend.
