ATVs

By Angela Gemmill

If you drive or ride an all-terrain-vehicle there are some changes to provincial legislation which came into effect yesterday (July 1).

The province says multiple passenger ATVs are now allowed on the shoulder of Ontario roads.

But the city issued a statement reminding users that the municipal bylaw remains in effect.

That means only single passenger ATVs with four wheels and a seat to straddle, are permitted on designated city streets.

The municipal bylaw is currently under review.

There is one important provincial safety change: all riders -regardless of age- must wear a helmet.

There is an educational period until September 1st for the new provincial rules.
