Greater Sudbury Police will use a ‘wait and see’ attitude when it comes to body cameras.

Just this week, Toronto Police began a year-long $500,000 pilot project to test three types of surveillance cameras worn by officers.

Greater Sudbury Police Services Board Chair, Gerry Lougheed Junior, says Sudbury will be rolling out dashboard cameras in four cruisers which is what they will focus on.

He says a lot would have to be taken into consideration before body cameras here, including addressing privacy and confidentiality issues beforehand.

In Toronto, officers will only use the cameras when there’s a call for service or someone is being investigated.

That pilot includes three different types of body cameras worn by 100 officers.
