Public elementary school students across the province shouldn’t feel too much of the effects of a work-to-rule campaign by their teachers.

That job action begins today.

Members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will not be performing administrative duties, which includes things like giving standardized tests, commenting on report cards or conducting any Ministry-related activities.

The two sides have not been able to hammer out a new collective bargaining contract, with several key issues holding things up.

Elementary schools remain open and teachers will still help out with extra-curricular activities and attend field trips.

That is quite different than what has been happening at high schools in three Ontario school boards, including Rainbow District School Board in Sudbury.

Five-thousand local students remain home from school, as Sudbury and area high school teachers begin Day 15 of their strike, today.

Meantime, it might not be too long before the Ontario English Catholic Teachers begin picket lines of their own.

Last week, members of that union voted 94% in favour of a strike and could walkout as early as mid-June.
