Minor Fire In Vale's Matte Processing Plant In Copper Cliff

All workers were evacuated from the Matte processing facility on Vale’s Balsam Street property in Copper Cliff last night, due to a fire.

An electrical fire broke out in one of the manufacturing buildings linked with the smelter.

Multiple processes had to be shut down to allow the high voltage electrical fire to be safely extinguished.

Fire and smoke damage are both minor, however an estimated dollar loss is undetermined.

No one was hurt and all workers were accounted for.
