Alana Sorgini took the next STEP in her academic career by earning a Schulich Leader Scholarship.

The Grade 12 student who is in the Science Technology Education Program(STEP) at Lockerby Composite School will receive the scholarship worth $60,000 and entrance to study biomedical sciences at the University of Ottawa.

The scholarship was established in 2012 by Philanthropist Seymour Schulich to recognize young Canadian leaders in the STEM field which is science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Sorgini is one of just 50 people in the country to receive the scholarship and is the first ever from the Rainbow District School Board.
